Using my Drone to Find an Old, Sunken Ship (the Cerberus)

Half Moon Bay got a whole lot more interesting when I used my drone to find an old, sunken ship called The Cerberus. I knew that something was in the water because it’s only 200 meters away form the shoreline, but I just wasn’t sure what. One day I decided to go early and take a closer look with my drone and well … the results were impressive.

Where is Half Moon Bay?

One of my favourite beaches that I like to go to in Melbourne, Australia is ‘Half Moon Bay’. It’s located just 30 minutes South East from the city, and it’s absolutely stunning. I used to go there every second weekend and appreciate the tranquillity and beauty of this amazing beach. Sitting in the bay, don’t expect big waves, and rough waters. This little beach is nothing like that. Just be sure to leave your boards at home, and take something relaxing to do.

Using my drone

The day I decided to go to Half Moon Bay with my drone was a day that I’ll never forget. From all the times I had visited, I didn’t realise the size, age and beauty on the sunken vessel that rests only 200m from the shore. The Cerberus has its roots dating back to 1870. It was used at one stage as a guard ship and munitions store. At the moment, The Cerberus acts as a breakwater for the Black Rock Yacht Club. The Cerberus’ days of being valiant and strong are now over, and this majestic vessel simply watches over one of the most beautiful bays that Melbourne has to offer.

(Here’s a video I made!)

If you’re visiting Melbourne, then I highly recommend you to visit this beach. There is a little fish and chip shop that makes some delicious food. If there are lots of people on the day you go, you can always work your way up the bay until you find a secluded spot.

TIP – being a really beautiful spot in Melbourne, Half Moon Bay can generally attract a crowd. To avoid this, you should look at going during the week … early in the morning is best.  It’s also a good time to take and use your drone as there won’t be any people to annoy.

Happy Droning!
