How to start building your blog WITHOUT a domain
Ever wanted to start building a blog, but couldn’t decide on the domain? So many people give up on starting their blog simply because they can’t think of a name/domain. In response to that, I’m going to share with you a tip so you can start building your blog without a domain (you can add it on later once you’re ready)!
Normally you would have to choose a domain and start building at the same time, but I figured out this really cool trick on BlueHost which allows you to start building your blog straight away (without choosing a domain).
Essentially when you signup with BlueHost they will give you a free domain. It’s a pretty sweet deal. Anyways, if you’re unsure of what domain you want, don’t be one of those people who give up because you just haven’t thought of it yet. All you have to do is follow along (it’s super easy)
So as I said, BlueHost will give you a free domain upon signing up, and this is great! What we’re going to do in this tutorial though, is have BlueHost credit you that domain. Look, I’ll show you!
First, go to www.bluehost.com (affiliate link – meaning if you do choose to sign up with them, you’ll get my special affiliate price, plus I’ll receive a commission for recommending you 🙂 .. everybody wins!)
1. Once you’re on www.bluehost.com, press ‘Get Started Now’
2. On the next screen, you’ll need to choose the hosting packing. I recommend starting with the ‘Basic’ one. It’s the cheapest and will be more than sufficient. You can upgrade this at any stage if you start to develop LARGE amounts of website traffic.
3. This next page asks you to either write a new domain you’re wishing to use, or input one which you already have. Now this simple and effective trick will allow you to continue on with the sign-up process and add a domain onto your account once you’re ready.
Simple hover to the ‘x’ on the page (as if you were going to close the window). Upon doing this, a pop-up window will appear 🙂
4. This is what it looks like! All you need to do now is click ‘Choose Free Domain Later’. Bluehost is going to essentially ‘credit’ you your domain! Easy right?
5. Continue through the sign-up process like normal 🙂
